Aesthetic Medical Firms Expand Operations Following Weight Loss Demand
Beauty and cosmetic companies are rapidly expanding into the medical spa market. More people now seek non-surgical cosmetic treatments. The growing popularity of modern weight loss drugs has helped drive this demand.
PharmaResearch wants to capitalize on the trend. The product maker recently partnered with LaserAway, a major medical spa chain. The partnership could help PharmaResearch reach more customers in the growing medical aesthetics market.
Around the same time, global beauty company Hugel brought in industry veteran Carrie Strom as its new CEO to help speed up growth. Both moves show how beauty brands are shifting their strategies to cash in on the growing use of GLP-1 weight loss medications.
Much of this new demand comes from a specific group of prescription drugs. The group includes Wegovy, Ozempic, and Mounjaro.
The FDA approves Wegovy, which contains semaglutide, for long-term weight management. Ozempic also contains semaglutide, but doctors use it to treat type 2 diabetes. Mounjaro contains tirzepatide and also treats type 2 diabetes.

However, doctors frequently prescribe these diabetes medications off-label to help patients lose weight. All three drugs require a valid prescription and ongoing medical supervision to ensure patient safety.
While these medications help people shed pounds quickly, rapid weight loss often leads to unintended side effects like loose skin and facial volume loss. To address these physical changes, more patients are turning to medical spas for skin-tightening treatments, dermal fillers, and collagen boosters.
Expanding a medical spa business is not always simple because these clinics combine basic aesthetic services with light medical procedures. The FDA regulates the safety of the drugs and medical devices used inside these facilities, but it does not direct day-to-day operations.
Instead, local medical boards enforce licensing rules and set strict standards for who can perform specific treatments. Because these regulations vary from one location to another, expanding companies must carefully navigate a mix of federal laws and scattered local rules.
